Vivie’s Dance and Theatre Academy (VDTA) has achieved a significant milestone for Ghanaian performing arts, securing six prestigious awards at the Dance Star qualifiers held in Johannesburg, South Africa. This successful outing has paved the way for five of the academy’s dancers to represent Ghana at the upcoming World Dance Championship finals in Croatia. The achievement highlights the growing international footprint of Ghanaian dance talent and the effectiveness of local training programs in competing at a global level.
Among the standout performers was Daniel Appah, who dominated the Senior Contemporary Solo Dance category, claiming first place. In addition to his technical victory, Appah was also honored with the Personality Award, recognizing his stage presence and artistic expression. The academy’s success spanned across age groups, with its youngest member, Michelle Kassis, securing a third-place finish in the Children’s Lyrical Dance category. These individual accolades contributed to the academy's overall tally of six awards, demonstrating a high standard of versatility across different dance styles and age brackets.
Vivian Boateng, the founder of Vivie’s Dance and Theatre Academy, expressed immense pride in the dancers' performance, noting that the goal was to showcase Ghanaian talent on an international stage. She emphasized the academy’s commitment to nurturing young artists and providing them with platforms to grow. Moving forward, the academy aims to leverage this success to further its mission of developing world-class performers and contributing to Ghana’s creative economy. The focus now shifts to the World Dance Championship finals in Croatia, where the five qualified dancers will represent the nation against top-tier global competition.
