Vivie’s Dance and Theatre Academy (VDTA) has secured six awards at the Dance Star qualifiers recently held in Johannesburg, South Africa. This achievement ensures that all five participating dancers from the Ghanaian academy have qualified for the prestigious World Dance Championship finals scheduled to take place in Croatia. The success highlights the growing international footprint of Ghanaian performing arts institutions on the global stage.
Among the individual winners, teacher and dancer Daniel Appah distinguished himself by winning the Senior Contemporary Solo Dance category. He was also honored with the Personality Award, a recognition of his exceptional stage presence and technical skill. The academy’s youngest representative, Michelle Kassis, also made a significant mark by placing third in the Children’s Lyrical Dance category. These accolades reflect a diverse range of talent within the group, spanning various age groups and competitive dance styles.
Omoyemi Davies, the Head of Academy and Choreographer, attributed the success to the team's dedication to hard work and creative excellence throughout their preparation. Vivian Boateng, the founder of VDTA, expressed her pride in seeing Ghanaian talent represented at an international level. She noted that the academy’s primary mission is to inspire young artists across the country to pursue their creative passions and demonstrate that Ghanaian performers can compete at the highest international levels.
As the academy prepares for the upcoming finals in Croatia, the focus remains on refining their routines and expanding opportunities for young talent in the creative arts. This qualification serves as a significant milestone for the Ghanaian creative industry, potentially opening doors for more local performers to participate in international circuits and gain further global recognition.
