Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana (TTMG) has announced new investments to support the local assembly of the ninth-generation Hilux and the all-new Land Cruiser FJ. This expansion of the company’s operations in Ghana aims to strengthen the domestic automotive sector while leveraging high-tech assembly lines. The move represents a significant step in the company's commitment to industrialization and economic growth within the country.
According to Andrew Lamptey, Head of Sales Operations at TTMG, the introduction of the latest Hilux model required substantial upgrades, including new specialized equipment and intensive training for the workforce. The initiative focuses on maintaining Toyota's global quality standards while producing vehicles locally. Lamptey also pointed out that the development of local component manufacturing is a critical next step, which would further deepen the sector's contribution to the national economy and create additional employment opportunities.
National Sales and Marketing Manager Jerry Mensan emphasized that the company’s workforce is almost entirely comprised of Ghanaians, reflecting a dedication to local talent development. By assembling these flagship models in Ghana, TTMG intends to increase its market share and offer superior mobility solutions tailored to the local environment. The assembly process is designed to ensure that the high standards associated with the Toyota brand are upheld throughout the production chain.
Beyond meeting domestic demand, these investments position Ghana as a potential hub for vehicle exports in the future. By expanding the automotive value chain and integrating more local components, TTMG aims to drive sustainable industrial growth. The project aligns with broader national goals to transform Ghana into a leading automotive manufacturing center in West Africa, providing high-skilled jobs and reducing the country's reliance on imported fully built units.
