The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has announced a 30 percent salary increase for its workforce, marking the first time in a decade that employees have received a pay adjustment. Managing Director Edmond Kombat disclosed the development, noting that the move is part of a broader effort to improve employee welfare and align compensation with the refinery's improving operational status. The salary hike follows extensive negotiations between management and the refinery’s labor unions, signaling a renewed commitment to the state-owned enterprise's human capital.
In addition to the general salary increment, the refinery’s management has addressed over 300 individual staff petitions that had accumulated over the years. These resolutions, which include career progression and specific grievances, have contributed to a 10 percent overall increase in the refinery's wage bill. Mr. Kombat emphasized that these adjustments were necessary to boost morale and reward the commitment of staff who remained with the institution during its prolonged period of operational stagnation and financial uncertainty.
To support this financial commitment, the Managing Director highlighted significant improvements in TOR's operational capacity and resource management. He confirmed that the refinery has successfully secured a steady supply of crude oil, effectively resolving the supply bottlenecks that had previously crippled production for long periods. This consistent supply is expected to stabilize operations and ensure that the refinery can meet its market obligations while sustaining the newly adjusted salary structure as the company works toward long-term profitability.
