The Telecel Ghana Foundation has conducted a large-scale free health screening exercise for residents of Abura in the Central Region as part of the annual Fetu Afahye festival celebrations. Known as "HealthFest," the initiative aimed to bring essential medical services directly to the community during the traditional festivities. In collaboration with healthcare professionals from the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital and DMAC, the foundation provided a wide range of diagnostic services to hundreds of residents, reinforcing its commitment to improving public health outcomes through community-centered preventive care.
The comprehensive screening program covered several critical health conditions, including malaria, hepatitis B, typhoid, HIV, and blood glucose levels. Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, representing the Telecel Ghana Foundation, emphasized that the foundation is dedicated to promoting preventive healthcare by identifying health issues before they become severe. She noted that such community events are vital for increasing health awareness and early detection, especially given the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases. Dr. Bernard Bedu Boamah, a Medical Officer involved in the exercise, praised the high turnout and the positive response from the community, highlighting that such initiatives bridge the gap for individuals who might otherwise struggle to access routine medical check-ups.
Beneficiaries of the program expressed deep gratitude for the free services provided. Local resident Godwin Ampofoh noted that the accessibility of the screening allowed many to check their health status without the usual financial or logistical burdens associated with hospital visits. The "HealthFest" initiative aligns with the foundation's broader goal of enhancing healthcare accessibility across Ghana and fostering a culture of health consciousness. By leveraging large cultural gatherings like Fetu Afahye, the Telecel Ghana Foundation continues to prioritize proactive medical intervention and public wellness as a cornerstone of its social impact strategy.
