The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested two teachers from Techiman Senior High School for the alleged assault of a 17-year-old final-year student. Jerry Jones Owusu Bekoe, 37, and Ameyaw Adusa, 44, were taken into custody on November 1, 2026, after a viral video surfaced showing them physically attacking the student. The footage, which sparked widespread public outcry, reportedly showed the educators stepping on the student’s head during the assault.
The incident took place on October 23, 2026, when the teachers allegedly confronted the victim over a dispute involving two Form One students. The police have confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities are coordinating with relevant social and educational stakeholders to ensure the victim receives comprehensive physical and psychological support following the traumatic event.
In response to the incident, the Ministry of Education has initiated high-level administrative proceedings. Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, acting on a directive from Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, has officially referred the matter to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for an urgent inquiry. Dr. Apaak emphasized that the ministry maintains a strict stance against any form of misconduct and has requested the GES Director-General to apply appropriate sanctions if the teachers are found guilty.
The Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe and secure learning environments across all Ghanaian schools. Dr. Apaak noted that violence against students undermines the core values of the educational system and affirmed that the ministry would continue to enforce policies that protect students from abuse. The outcome of the GES investigation will determine the administrative and professional consequences for the two teachers involved.
