The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) has distributed 10,000 bags of fertilizer to local farmers as part of a strategic effort to enhance food security and stimulate economic growth in the region. During the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly, Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Adam Abubakari Takoro announced the allocation of 9,000 bags of NPK and 1,000 bags of urea. This initiative underscores the Assembly's commitment to supporting the agricultural sector, which Mr. Takoro identified as a primary driver of the local economy and a key area for future investment. In addition to the fertilizer distribution, the Assembly is rolling out several programs aimed at modernizing agriculture and engaging the youth. These include the distribution of poultry under the government’s Nkokonkiti initiative and a pilot aquaculture project supported by the Ministry of Fisheries. By diversifying agricultural activities into livestock and fish farming, the Assembly hopes to create new employment opportunities and improve nutritional standards across the metropolis. Mr. Takoro highlighted that making agriculture attractive to young people is essential for the long-term sustainability of the sector. Environmental and infrastructural developments were also key highlights of the MCE’s address. The Assembly has set a target to plant 150,000 trees under the national Tree for Life initiative and has launched the Shade Dagbang Project to increase greenery along urban roadways. On the health and sanitation front, progress continues on the construction of a new male ward at the West Hospital, while new waste management protocols are being established to address the city’s sanitation challenges. These efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to improving the quality of life for Tamale residents. To ensure the success of these initiatives, Mr. Takoro called for strengthened collaboration between the Assembly, traditional leaders, and community members. He emphasized that the success of projects ranging from social protection to environmental conservation depends on collective responsibility and active civic participation. As these projects move forward, the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly remains focused on fostering an inclusive environment where economic productivity and environmental health go hand in hand.
