Ghana will host its first national literacy and creative arts festival, StoryFest Ghana, from December 11 to 13, 2026, at the Accra City Hotel. Organized by AMPLE House and endorsed by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the three-day event is designed to celebrate storytelling and Ghanaian culture. Organizers expect to attract over 3,000 visitors, including approximately 1,000 people from the diaspora, making it a key fixture in the country’s end-of-year tourism calendar.
The festival will feature six distinct themed zones, each dedicated to different creative expressions. A major highlight of the program is the Christmas pantomime titled "BELIEVE the Musical," which aims to showcase local talent and festive storytelling. Additionally, the festival will host a storytelling competition that offers a significant incentive for aspiring writers: a publishing opportunity valued at US$5,000. These initiatives are intended to promote literacy and provide a platform for local creators to reach wider audiences.
By integrating with Ghana's December tourism activities, StoryFest Ghana seeks to bolster the nation’s creative economy and support cultural engagement. The endorsement from the Ghana Tourism Authority underscores the festival's role in promoting cultural tourism and encouraging interaction with Ghanaian heritage. As preparations continue for the December launch, the event stands as a significant effort to bridge the gap between literature and mainstream entertainment, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts among both residents and visitors.
