St John Ambulance Ghana organized a comprehensive breast cancer awareness and screening programme last Wednesday to promote early detection and preventive healthcare. The initiative was specifically designed to engage the organization's staff and volunteers, while also opening its doors to members of the local community. Held at its facility, the event underscored the organization's commitment to the health and well-being of its frontline workers and the public.
The programme featured several specialized stations to address different aspects of health management. This included a dedicated screening room for private examinations and a sensitization area where participants received detailed education on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Beyond cancer awareness, the event incorporated a CPR demonstration zone, allowing attendees to refresh their emergency response skills, which is a core component of the St John Ambulance mission.
Collaborating with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the organization aimed to enhance community health education and empower individuals to take an active role in their personal health management. Officials emphasized that early detection remains the most effective tool in managing breast cancer and reducing mortality rates. By providing these services directly to volunteers and staff, St John Ambulance Ghana seeks to foster a culture of proactive healthcare within its ranks and throughout the communities it serves.
