Spotify has officially rolled out its audiobook service in Ghana, offering listeners access to a vast library of spoken-word content. The launch is part of the streaming giant's broader strategy to expand its services to more than 180 markets globally by 2026. This move allows both Free and Premium Spotify users in Ghana to integrate audiobooks into their existing listening habits, alongside the platform's established music and podcast offerings.
The service is anchored by the new Audiobooks+ add-on, which is priced at GH₵20 per month. This subscription provides users with 15 hours of listening time every month, with additional purchasing options available for those who exceed the limit. To enhance the user experience, Spotify has introduced several dedicated features, including a specific Audiobooks space within the app. Notable technical additions include "Page Match," which allows for seamless syncing across different formats, and the ability to download content for offline listening.
Beyond providing content for consumers, Spotify is positioning this launch as a significant opportunity for the local creative industry. The platform is actively encouraging Ghanaian authors and publishers to utilize its global reach to connect with broader audiences. This initiative comes at a time when consumer interest in the format is surging; Spotify reports that its global audiobook listenership has grown by nearly 40% over the past year. By integrating local literature into its catalog, the streaming service aims to provide a new digital avenue for Ghanaian storytelling.
