Ghanaian filmmaker Socrate Safo has raised alarms about the precarious state of the country's creative industry, warning that the music sector is on a path to collapse akin to that of the film industry. In a recent statement, Safo highlighted the detrimental effects of piracy and the widespread free access to content, which he believes are undermining the financial viability of artists. He noted that many musicians are incurring debts by performing for free while mistakenly celebrating high streaming numbers instead of focusing on sustainable income. Safo stressed the necessity of cultivating a paying audience and respecting the value of creative work to prevent further decline. He urged industry stakeholders to learn from the past to avert a complete breakdown of the music sector, emphasizing that government intervention alone cannot save the industry without a collective effort to address these critical issues.
