The St. Mary’s Old Girls’ Association (SMOGA) 2002 Year Group held a major fundraiser at the National Theatre on October 17, 2026, to support their alma mater. Partnering with Roverman Productions, the alumni group organized a screening of playwright Uncle Ebo Whyte’s popular production, "I Do, I Don’t." The primary objective of the evening was to raise substantial funds for the refurbishment of science laboratories at St. Mary’s Senior High School, ensuring current students have access to modern educational facilities.
The event was a vibrant display of school spirit, with the National Theatre decorated in the traditional blue and white colors of St. Mary's. Attendees, consisting largely of alumni, friends, and family, created a joyous atmosphere of reunion and sisterhood. The play, "I Do, I Don’t," served as the centerpiece of the entertainment, offering a blend of humor and life lessons that resonated with the audience while serving the noble cause of improving educational infrastructure.
This initiative forms a significant part of the year group’s 25th-anniversary celebrations. By focusing on the science laboratories, the SMOGA 2002 Year Group aims to address a critical need within the school, fostering an environment where young women can excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The collaboration with Roverman Productions highlights the effective use of cultural and theatrical events to drive philanthropic efforts within the Ghanaian community.
Leaders of the 2002 Year Group expressed their gratitude to the public and fellow "Merries" for their patronage, noting that the funds raised would go directly into the renovation project. This event underscores the growing trend of alumni associations taking a proactive role in the development of their former schools, bridging infrastructure gaps through community-led resource mobilization.
