Managing Director of the State Housing Company (SHC), John Sheriff Bawah, has announced that road infrastructure improvements will significantly reduce travel times for residents of the SHC’s Surge Homes in Amrahia. Residents commuting from the Amrahia enclave to major employment hubs, including East Legon and the Accra Central business district, are expected to see their travel times drop to approximately 30 minutes. This improvement is attributed to ongoing road construction and enhancements being executed under the government’s Big Push infrastructure program, which aims to facilitate easier movement for workers. The focus on road infrastructure is a deliberate attempt to resolve the accessibility challenges often associated with suburban housing developments. Bawah explained that the integration of housing delivery with robust transport infrastructure is essential for the convenience and productivity of workers. By ensuring that residential areas are well-linked to commercial centers, the SHC aims to make living in the outskirts of the capital a more viable and attractive option for the workforce. This synergy between housing and transport is a key priority for the current administration to ensure sustainable urban growth. In addition to the Amrahia project, the SHC is pursuing an expansion strategy to provide housing solutions across various cities in Ghana. This initiative seeks to decentralize housing and reduce the heavy concentration of development within traditional urban centers. According to the Managing Director, the goal is to provide accessible housing for Ghanaians in diverse locations, supported by the necessary infrastructure to ensure that these communities are well-connected. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to improving the living standards of citizens by reducing the time and cost associated with daily commutes.
