The National Da’awa Council (NADAC) has officially removed Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Imam from his role as the National Imam of Ahlussunna Wal-Jama'ah (ASWAJ). This decision, announced in a notice issued on November 4, 2026, followed a formal vote of no confidence supported by 21 members of the council. The council has subsequently declared the position vacant, marking a significant leadership change within the religious organization.
The removal process was initiated after the council cited several constitutional violations and acts of misconduct attributed to the National Imam. According to the council, an official notice detailing these allegations was sent to Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Imam on October 18, 2026. The council indicated that the decision to proceed with the vote of no confidence was reached after the Imam failed to provide a response to the allegations raised against him during the notice period.
In light of the leadership transition, the National Da’awa Council has called for peace and unity among all ASWAJ stakeholders and the wider Muslim community. The council emphasized the importance of maintaining order and stability within the organization while they navigate the process of filling the vacancy. The declaration of the office as vacant is effective immediately, as the council moves to address the administrative and spiritual requirements of the religious body.
