Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has officially petitioned the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, regarding the deteriorating state of the Weija Junction-to-Mallam stretch. The lawmaker is calling for urgent intervention to address severe potholes on this critical section of the Cape Coast-Accra Highway, which serves as a major artery for commuters entering the capital from the Central and Western Regions.
In his petition, Shaib highlighted the extreme traffic congestion caused by the poor road conditions, noting that what should be a three-minute journey now takes commuters over two hours to navigate. He emphasized that these delays are more than a mere inconvenience, as they significantly impede access to essential services. Of particular concern is the impact on local health facilities, where the damaged road surface is reportedly delaying medical emergencies and making it difficult for residents to reach healthcare providers.
The MP urged the Ministry of Roads and Highways and other relevant authorities to conduct an immediate inspection and carry out emergency repairs to restore the road's usability. Beyond temporary fixes, Shaib is advocating for a comprehensive long-term solution that includes complete resurfacing and the installation of a robust drainage system. He argued that without addressing the underlying drainage issues, any repairs would be short-lived, leading to a recurrence of the current deterioration.
