The Western Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended five suspects in connection with the violent robbery and subsequent murder of 40-year-old gold buyer Seth Kobina. The incident, which occurred on August 20, 2026, in Agona Fie, Agona Nkwanta, shocked the local community when armed men stormed Kobina’s shop. Despite being rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital after the shooting, Kobina succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, sparking an intensive manhunt for those responsible.
According to police reports, the breakthrough in the case was significantly aided by CCTV footage, which helped investigators identify the individuals involved in the lethal heist. The suspects in custody include 47-year-old Christopher Seyiri, 20-year-old Bashiru Ibrahim, 30-year-old Thomas Odoom, and Isaac Quayeson. The alleged mastermind behind the operation, 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, was the first to be apprehended on August 21. At the time of his arrest, police recovered a pistol and several cartridges. However, the investigation took a turn when Amponsah fell ill while in custody and passed away at the hospital shortly thereafter.
The investigation extended beyond the immediate vicinity of the crime, eventually leading to the arrest of Isaac Quayeson in Denkyira Kwaboso. During his capture, police discovered additional weapons in his possession. In his subsequent statements to the authorities, Quayeson reportedly implicated the late Amponsah as the primary shooter during the robbery. The coordination between various regional units demonstrates the police's commitment to tracking down all members of the syndicate, regardless of where they attempt to seek refuge.
While the arrest of these five individuals marks a significant step toward justice for Seth Kobina, the Western Regional Police Command emphasized that the case remains open. Detectives are actively pursuing leads to locate and arrest remaining accomplices believed to be part of the criminal gang. This successful operation highlights the increasing role of surveillance technology in modern policing across Ghana and serves as a stern warning to criminal elements targeting local businesses in the region.
