Burkina Faso’s Minister for Industry, Commerce and Crafts, Serge Gnaidem Poda, has expressed high praise for the creativity and quality of Ghanaian craftsmanship during a visit to the 18th International Arts and Handicraft Trade Show of Ouagadougou (SIAO 2026). On November 2, 2026, the Minister toured the Ghana Village Pavilion, where he commended the diverse range of artefacts that reflect the country’s rich cultural identity. His visit comes just ahead of the designated Ghana Day celebrations scheduled for November 3, marking a significant moment for bilateral cultural and economic exchange within the West African sub-region. Accompanied by senior ministry officials and traditional leaders, Minister Poda was received at the pavilion by Ghana’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Kenneth Akibate. During the tour, the Minister emphasized that the exhibited works were a testament to the talent of Ghanaian artisans, noting that the quality of the items showcased not only the artistic prowess of the creators but also the depth of Ghana’s heritage. The exhibition serves as a vital platform for artisans to reach international markets, allowing them to showcase the evolution of traditional handicrafts to a global audience. Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, had previously encouraged attendees of the trade show to explore the pavilion to experience Ghana’s unique cultural offerings firsthand. Ambassador Akibate echoed these sentiments, stressing that participating in international events like SIAO is crucial for projecting national identity and fostering regional trade partnerships. The 18th edition of the SIAO continues to be a premier event for African artisans, with the Ghana Village Pavilion serving as a central hub for visitors to engage with the nation's artistic traditions and craftsmanship.
