Businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has presented more than 800 sewing machines to individuals across the Greater Accra Region. This gesture marks the commencement of a broader initiative aimed at equipping women and young people with the necessary tools to establish or scale up their own tailoring and dressmaking enterprises. The distribution was carried out in partnership with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), a state agency focused on fostering business growth and innovation.
The event featured prominent figures, including NEIP Chief Executive Officer Eric Adjei, who supported the distribution process. Alhaji Agongo, known for his charitable works, explained that the initiative is driven by a belief in the power of giving and personal evolution. He emphasized that the primary goal is to help beneficiaries develop employable skills that can lead to financial independence. Beneficiaries, many of whom are aspiring fashion designers, expressed significant gratitude for the equipment, noting that it removes a major financial barrier to entering the industry.
This Greater Accra distribution is the first phase of a more ambitious project. Alhaji Agongo revealed plans to eventually distribute 10,000 sewing machines to people throughout all sixteen regions of Ghana. By collaborating with NEIP, the initiative seeks to leverage public structures to ensure that the equipment reaches those who need it most and that the training provided aligns with national entrepreneurship standards.
During the presentation, Agongo highlighted the necessity of cooperation between private individuals and public institutions to drive national growth. He urged the recipients to make the most of the tools provided, stressing that the machines are not just equipment but a foundation for building sustainable livelihoods. This nationwide rollout is expected to continue in the coming months, targeting various underserved communities to boost local economic activities in the garment sector.
