Alhaji Seidu Agongo begins nationwide distribution of 10,000 sewing machines

Businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo, in collaboration with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has launched a major nationwide initiative to distribute 10,000 sewing machines to vulnerable women and youth across Ghana. The project officially commenced with a ceremony in the Greater Accra Region, designed to provide essential equipment to aspiring fashion entrepreneurs and established artisans who lack the financial resources to acquire their own tools. This initiative aims to foster employability in the tailoring and dressmaking sectors while promoting economic self-reliance.

During the initial phase of the rollout, 830 sewing machines were handed over to beneficiaries. Addressing the recipients, Alhaji Agongo urged young Ghanaians to match their natural talents with hard work and commitment. He emphasized that success is attainable regardless of one’s humble beginnings, provided there is determination and access to necessary resources. Agongo noted that the initiative is part of his ongoing commitment to giving back to society and providing hope to those hindered by circumstances beyond their control.

NEIP Chief Executive Officer, Eric Adjei, highlighted the transparency of the selection process, asserting that the distribution is open to all qualified Ghanaians irrespective of their political affiliations. He praised the partnership with the private sector, noting that such collaborations are vital for addressing the country’s unemployment challenges. According to Adjei, the program aligns with NEIP's broader goal of offering training and support to foster a sustainable garment sector and create lasting job opportunities.

The distribution is expected to continue in subsequent phases until the full quota of 10,000 machines is met across the country. By providing these resources, the organizers hope to empower thousands of individuals to establish their own businesses, thereby reducing poverty and driving national development through private-public cooperation.
