American rapper and music executive Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment over the weekend after sustaining a head injury at a New Jersey federal prison. The artist, who is currently serving a 50-month sentence, was transported from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix by ambulance on Saturday morning. Following the medical emergency, he was treated and returned to the facility within a few hours.
The specific nature of the injury and the circumstances leading to the hospitalisation remain unclear. Neither prison officials nor representatives for the rapper have clarified whether the head injury was the result of an accident, a medical episode, or an altercation within the facility. The name of the medical centre where he received treatment was also withheld for security reasons.
Combs was convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, though he was acquitted of more severe charges. His time in custody has recently been marked by administrative disciplinary actions; he was sanctioned for the alleged use of contraband, which resulted in the loss of good conduct time. This penalty pushed his projected release date back from January 2028 to March 2028.
While the rapper's swift return to the prison suggests that the injury was not critical, the incident has drawn renewed attention to his incarceration at the low-security Fort Dix facility. Authorities have not yet indicated if an internal investigation will be conducted into the events of Saturday morning, and the rapper continues to serve his term under the updated release schedule.
