The Management of the Savannah College of Education in Daboya has officially apologised to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) following an illegal sit-down strike by its staff. In a formal letter dated November 5, 2026, the college expressed its "heartfelt apology" for the industrial action, which took place between October 27 and November 1, 2026. The institution acknowledged that the strike, initiated by local branches of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG), bypassed established industrial relations protocols.
The apology, issued through the Acting Registrar, Muftau-Kola Fasasi, admitted that a breakdown in internal communication and administrative processes contributed to the escalation of the dispute. Management acknowledged its responsibility in the events that led staff to abandon their posts, expressing regret for the disruption caused to the academic calendar and the administrative functions of the college. By categorising the strike as illegal, the college management conceded that the industrial action did not follow the mandatory procedures required for such disputes within the tertiary education sector.
To prevent a recurrence of such industrial unrest, the Savannah College of Education has pledged to enhance institutional discipline and improve the welfare of its personnel. The college leadership committed to fostering more transparent communication channels between management and staff unions to resolve grievances before they escalate. Furthermore, the institution expressed gratitude to GTEC for its support during the period of unrest and reiterated its dedication to working closely with national authorities to ensure the continued advancement of tertiary education in Ghana.
