Teaching and non-teaching staff at the Savanna College of Education in Daboya have suspended their industrial action effective November 1, 2026. The decision to halt the sit-down strike follows high-level interventions and a direct appeal from the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak. Approximately 170 staff members participated in the industrial action, which was prompted by prolonged delays in their migration to the public payroll.
The suspension of the strike came after mediation efforts involving the Savannah Regional Minister and the North Gonja District Chief Executive. In response to the labor unrest, Dr. Apaak instructed the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to engage directly with the college's staff to resolve their grievances. The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of returning to work while a permanent solution is being brokered, expressing optimism that the upcoming dialogue would yield a positive outcome for the employees.
While staff have agreed to resume their duties, the unions clarified that the suspension is a temporary measure and not a final resolution of the dispute. A formal meeting is scheduled for November 3, 2026, where stakeholders will discuss the outstanding concerns and the technical details of the payroll migration. Union leaders expressed gratitude to the local authorities for their support but maintained that they would continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure their demands are met in a timely manner.
