Sarkodie named ambassador for KNUST to expand university influence

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has been officially appointed as an ambassador for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The appointment took place during a high-profile visit to the university campus in Kumasi, where the artist was formally recognized for his potential to project the institution's brand beyond the traditional academic sphere. The move signifies a growing trend of partnerships between academic institutions and high-profile figures in the creative arts. The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Christian Agyare, presided over the ceremony and presented Sarkodie with a special commemorative plaque to seal the partnership. According to the university leadership, the decision to bring the rapper on board aligns with a strategic goal to extend the university's influence into broader cultural and social spaces. Professor Agyare highlighted that Sarkodie’s reach as a global music icon provides a unique platform for the university to engage with a wider audience and enhance its public profile. Sarkodie's visit to the campus occurred in the lead-up to his highly anticipated Rapperholic concert scheduled for the Ashanti regional capital. During his time at the university, the rapper interacted with students, many of whom gathered to welcome the star and celebrate his new role. The Students' Representative Council (SRC) has already signaled its strong backing for the upcoming concert, reinforcing the bond between the artist and the university community. This ambassadorship marks a significant intersection between Ghana’s entertainment industry and its higher education sector. By leveraging Sarkodie's influence, KNUST aims to showcase a more multifaceted institutional identity that values creative excellence alongside academic rigor. The collaboration is expected to enhance student engagement and provide the university with a prominent voice in the national and international creative arts landscape.
