The Ghana Police Service has arrested 72-year-old Samuel Christopher Osei Anto in connection with the double murder of George Atubiga and his niece, Irene Atubiga. The suspect, who had been on the run since the shooting on October 30, 2026, was apprehended at a hideout in Tikrom near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region. The arrest follows a targeted manhunt after the bodies of the victims were found in Sakumono, Accra, following a violent confrontation at their residence.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the tragic incident was triggered by a financial dispute involving a GH₵500,000 loan. It is alleged that George Atubiga had taken the loan from Osei Anto, and the shooting occurred during a demand for repayment. Both 57-year-old George and 47-year-old Irene, a prominent entrepreneur, were rushed to the hospital after the attack but were both later pronounced dead. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Sakumono community, where the victims were well-known.
In addition to the primary suspect, the police have also taken 47-year-old Beatrice Mumuni into custody. She is accused of playing a role in the crime by allegedly leading Osei Anto to the victims' residence prior to the shooting. With both suspects now in custody, the police are expected to process them for court as they conclude their investigations. The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest on November 1, 2026, via official communication, signaling the next phase of the legal process for the accused parties.
