Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested 72-year-old Samuel Christopher Osei Anto in connection with the double murder of George Atubiga and his niece, Irene Atubiga, in Sakumono. The suspect was apprehended on November 1, 2026, at a hideout in Tikrom following a targeted police operation. During the arrest, officers recovered a Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition, which are believed to be linked to the crime. The fatal shooting occurred on October 30, 2026, in the Sakumono area of the Greater Accra Region. According to investigators, the violence was motivated by a financial dispute involving a GH₵500,000 debt owed to 57-year-old George Atubiga. A confrontation reportedly ensued during a demand for repayment, leading the suspect to allegedly open fire on both George and his 47-year-old niece, Irene Atubiga. Before Osei Anto’s capture, the police had already taken 47-year-old Beatrice Mumuni into custody. She was reportedly present with the suspect during the incident and is alleged to have been an accomplice. After the shooting, Osei Anto fled the scene and remained on the run for two days before being tracked down to his location in the Ashanti Region by regional police units. Samuel Christopher Osei Anto is currently being held in police custody as investigations into the double homicide continue. The authorities are processing the forensic evidence, including the retrieved firearm, to consolidate the case for prosecution. This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation, providing closure to a case that has shocked the Sakumono community.
