Veteran Ghanaian dancehall artiste Samini has announced a shift in his career focus, prioritising the mentorship of emerging talent over the pursuit of personal hit songs. Speaking ahead of the upcoming Samini Xperience concert scheduled for December 24, the musician revealed that he intends to use his platform to provide visibility for rising artistes from his home community of Dansoman. This initiative marks a significant turn for the performer, who has long been a staple of the Ghanaian music industry.
The Samini Xperience serves as the climax of the week-long DC Carnival, which is set to run from December 18 to December 24 in Accra. According to the artiste, the decision to focus on younger performers stems from a desire to give back to the neighbourhood that nurtured his own career. Samini emphasised that established musicians carry a responsibility to use their influence to uplift the next generation, rather than solely focusing on their own commercial success. He noted that at this stage of his career, he feels less pressure to produce chart-topping tracks and more drive to foster a legacy through support for others.
The event is designed to unite the Dansoman community and highlight its vast creative potential. By providing a professional stage for unknown talent, the DC Carnival aims to bridge the gap between grassroots performers and the mainstream industry. Samini’s move has been framed as an effort to ensure the long-term sustainability of the local music scene. Attendees of the carnival can expect a variety of performances leading up to the final concert, where the curated selection of young Dansoman artistes will take the spotlight alongside the dancehall veteran.
