At Sakumono Titanic Beach in Tema, holidaymakers are being captivated by stunning sand sculptures, including intricate mermaid figures, as part of the Christmas festivities. These artistic creations pay homage to West African mythology, particularly the revered water spirit Mama Wata. Artist Agboado Livingstone emphasized the beach as a vibrant canvas for creativity, transforming a typical day of relaxation into an artistic experience. Visitors, such as European tourist Franko van Schmidt, have praised the local hospitality and the serene atmosphere of the beach.
However, environmental concerns have been raised by activist Maame Esi Nyarko, who called for improved pollution controls to combat plastic waste on the beach. While security measures are in place for the safety of holidaymakers, the sand sculptures remain at the mercy of the elements, blending back into the shore as night falls, yet leaving a lasting impression on the festive spirit of the season.
