The Accra High Court has scheduled the trial of Safina Adizatu Mohammed, a first-year University of Ghana student, to commence on January 12, 2027. Ms. Mohammed is accused of murdering her boyfriend, Frank Kofi Osei, a 37-year-old Ghanaian resident of Canada, who was found dead in July 2022. The prosecution has indicated its intention to call nine witnesses during the proceedings to support its case against the defendant, who has formally pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The incident dates back to July 26, 2022, when Mr. Osei was discovered with multiple stab wounds at Ms. Mohammed's apartment. According to the prosecution, a misunderstanding between the couple led to a struggle that resulted in the fatal injuries. Investigators recovered a knife from the apartment that they believe is linked to the killing. Additional evidence suggests that Ms. Mohammed may have sought assistance from another individual to move Osei's body after the struggle ended.
While early investigative reports indicated that Ms. Mohammed admitted to stabbing Osei, she has since maintained her innocence in court. Ms. Mohammed was a Biological Science student at the time of the incident, and her trial is expected to examine the specific circumstances of the altercation and the conflicting accounts of her actions. The court will begin hearing testimonies from the state's witnesses on the scheduled date to determine the facts of the case.
