The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are investigating new allegations of rape from two additional women against Russell Brand. This development follows the actor and comedian’s recent conviction on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court. Police officials indicated that the recent guilty verdicts have encouraged more individuals to come forward with reports regarding Brand's past conduct, with officers already having collected over 340 witness statements as part of a dedicated inquiry.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, expressed hope that the outcome of the recent trial would provide other potential victims with the confidence to speak to the authorities. The ongoing investigation is part of a broader, three-year probe into Brand’s behavior. During the trial, the court heard harrowing testimonies from several victims, although Brand was found not guilty on two other counts. The police remain focused on the bravery of the victims who have stepped forward thus far.
The police face significant investigative hurdles due to the non-recent nature of the allegations, with some claims dating back as far as 27 years. Officers noted that the passage of time means physical evidence, such as forensic data or CCTV footage, is often unavailable. Despite these challenges, the Metropolitan Police emphasized their commitment to substantiating the claims through extensive inquiries into the actor’s professional and personal history, building on the evidence already gathered by their dedicated team.
Russell Brand has consistently denied all allegations of non-consensual sexual activity. Since the accusations first gained widespread public attention in September 2023, he has maintained that his past relationships were always consensual. However, the police continue to treat the new complaints with priority as they assess the scale of the allegations against the individual, whom prosecutors previously described as a "ruthless sexual predator."
