The Ghana Police Service has arrested 40-year-old Roger Borbobli at the VIP Bus Terminal in Circle, Accra, after he was found in possession of 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The arrest occurred on October 29, 2026, following a combination of intelligence reports and the vigilance of terminal workers who noticed suspicious activity involving the suspect's luggage.
The discovery was made when loading boys at the bus terminal detected an unusual, pungent smell emanating from three suitcases Borbobli was transporting. Upon alerting the police, a search was conducted, revealing the large quantity of the illicit substance neatly packed within the bags. Authorities have estimated the total value of the seized parcels at approximately GH₵33,600.
During initial interrogations, Borbobli, who identified himself as a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, reportedly admitted to cultivating the substance. He further stated that he had obtained the specific parcels found in his possession from another farmer, identified as Benjamin. The suspect was attempting to move the luggage through the busy transport hub when the smell of the contents drew the attention of the terminal staff.
Borbobli remains in police custody as investigations continue into the source and intended destination of the narcotics. The seized evidence has been forwarded to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for detailed analysis to confirm the nature of the substance. The police have indicated that the suspect will be processed for court in the coming days as they work to identify and locate other individuals potentially involved in the trade.
