Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) has ranked Ghana as the sixth most attractive investment destination in Africa for the third consecutive year. According to the RMB 2026/27 report, the country’s stable position reflects a strengthening economic recovery characterized by robust growth and moderating inflation. While the ranking suggests a level of consistency, the report indicates that Ghana is entering a new phase of investment potential as it builds on recent macroeconomic improvements.
The report highlights that Ghana's GDP growth has reached 6.0%, a significant marker of its recovery trajectory under current fiscal policies. This economic performance is largely driven by traditional export pillars, specifically gold, cocoa, and crude oil, which remain the primary sources of foreign exchange. However, analysts at First National Bank and RMB warn that a heavy reliance on these specific commodities presents inherent risks, particularly regarding price volatility in international markets and external economic shocks.
To ensure long-term economic resilience, the report emphasizes the necessity for Ghana to prioritize sector diversification and maintain strict fiscal discipline. Experts suggest that the nation's future investment attractiveness will depend on its success in translating macroeconomic stability into sustainable business opportunities beyond the extractive industries. Strengthening the investment climate will require deliberate efforts to broaden the economic base and create an environment where non-commodity sectors can flourish.
