MTN Ghana’s Richard Acheampong Urges Priority for Reliable Home Connectivity as Central Pillar of Ghana’s Digital Economy

Richard Acheampong, the Chief Home Officer of MTN Ghana, has emphasized that reliable home internet connectivity is no longer a luxury but an essential utility on par with electricity and water. Speaking at the MTN Bright Conversations event in Accra, Acheampong highlighted the critical role that dependable high-speed internet plays in shaping the nation's digital economy. He noted that the modern Ghanaian household has undergone a significant transformation, evolving into a central hub for professional work, formal education, and high-definition entertainment, all of which require a stable and robust digital backbone.
During his address, Acheampong urged consumers and service providers alike to shift their focus from mere speed metrics to overall service reliability and user experience. He argued that while high speeds are beneficial, the true value of a connection is tested during critical moments; service failures during important business meetings or educational sessions reflect the actual cost of poor connectivity. As homes increasingly accommodate multiple users and a growing array of connected devices, the demand for dedicated home broadband solutions—particularly fiber-to-the-home—has become more pronounced across all socio-economic levels.
To future-proof the nation’s digital landscape, MTN Ghana is advocating for the adoption of intelligent home technologies and automated systems. Acheampong emphasized that the transition toward smart homes is reliant on sustained investment in digital infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity. By encouraging households of various income levels to invest in robust internet services, the telecommunications giant aims to enhance national productivity and unlock new economic and educational opportunities for citizens. This strategic focus on home-based connectivity is seen as a vital step in supporting Ghana's broader objectives for a resilient and inclusive digital future.
