Hiplife legend Reggie Rockstone and The Or Foundation organized a four-kilometre health walk for traders at the Kantamanto Market on October 18, 2026. The event, held as part of the fifth-anniversary celebrations of the Obroni Wawu October (OWO) Festival, sought to promote physical fitness, preventive healthcare, and community cohesion within Ghana's largest secondhand clothing hub. The walk brought together a large number of market participants, particularly women, to emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle amidst the demands of commercial trade.
Serving as the festival’s ambassador, Reggie Rockstone highlighted the vital role the secondhand clothing industry plays in Ghana's economy and its potential for further growth through innovation. The initiative underscored the link between community wellness and the economic benefits of textile recycling and sustainable fashion. Rockstone called for increased creativity and investment in the sector, noting that the market's contributions to the national economy deserve modern support and recognition.
The walk concluded at a demonstration site featuring a model for improved market infrastructure designed with fire-resistant materials and sustainable practices. This proposed redevelopment, estimated to cost over $70 million for broad implementation across the market, aims to address the persistent threat of fires that have historically devastated Kantamanto. The Or Foundation confirmed that stakeholder consultations are currently underway to ensure that the proposed infrastructure improvements are tailored to the specific needs and safety requirements of the local traders.
