Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed was rushed to the hospital on Saturday after sustaining a serious head injury during a Spanish second-division fixture between Sabadell and Albacete. The midfielder, who joined the Spanish side in July 2025, briefly lost consciousness following a high-impact collision on the pitch, sparking immediate concern among players and medical staff.
The incident occurred in the 42nd minute of the match when Albacete’s Jos Corpas, attempting to connect with a volley, inadvertently struck Liameed in the head. The impact was severe enough to cause Liameed to collapse instantly. Medical teams from both clubs attended to him on the field before he was transported to the Hospital Quirn Santa Cristina for emergency evaluation and diagnostic tests.
Following the collision, refereeing officials issued a straight red card to Corpas, leaving Albacete to finish the match with ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Albacete managed to secure a 2-1 victory. Disciplinary committees are expected to review the incident, and Corpas could face a multi-match ban for the dangerous play that led to the Nigerian international's injury.
Hospital reports indicate that Liameed’s initial tests returned positive results, and he has since been discharged in stable condition. However, the player will remain under medical supervision and is scheduled to undergo mandatory concussion testing before being cleared to return to training. Liameed, who began his professional football career in Nigeria, has been a notable addition to the Sabadell squad since his arrival earlier this year.
