The seventh edition of PRURide 2026 is officially set to take place on September 6, 2026, bringing together elite male and female cyclists from across Africa and beyond. Scheduled to commence at 12:00 noon on the Borteyman Highway, the event has established itself as a premier fixture in Ghana’s professional sporting calendar. This year’s competition features a significant financial incentive, with the top winners in both the male and female elite categories slated to receive GH¢15,000 each, marking it as one of the most lucrative cycling events in the region.
The race routes are specifically designed to test the endurance and technical skills of the participants. Male cyclists will tackle a grueling 112km course, while the female category will compete over a distance of 67.2km. Beyond the primary winners, the organizers have committed to rewarding excellence across the field, providing cash prizes to the top 10 finishers in each category. In a move to encourage broader community participation and inclusivity, special recognitions will also be awarded to various demographics, including the oldest and youngest riders, while every participant will be honored with a commemorative medal.
Beyond the competitive aspect, PRURide 2026 serves a broader social and environmental mission for the country. Supported by Prudential Life Insurance Ghana and the Ghana Cycling Federation, the event aims to promote a culture of safe cycling and advocate for a "green Ghana." By partnering with multiple organizations and media houses, the initiative seeks to foster healthier lifestyles among citizens while highlighting cycling as a sustainable mode of transport. As preparations reach their final stages, the event stands as a testament to the growing popularity and institutional support for professional cycling in West Africa.
