Britain’s Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, have announced the birth and naming of their third child, a daughter born in Lisbon, Portugal. The newborn, named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, arrived on August 3, 2025, weighing 6lb 9oz. The announcement, shared via Instagram, highlights the family’s joy as they welcome the new addition, who now stands 15th in line to the British throne and serves as the fifth grandchild for the former Duke and Duchess of York.
The choice of names carries deep personal and historical significance for the couple. Princess Eugenie noted that Adelaide is named after "three people we love," with the middle name Elizabeth serving as a direct tribute to her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The name Adelaide itself reflects a sophisticated blend of English and Portuguese heritage, acknowledging the family's current ties to Portugal where the birth took place. Eugenie described the initial days with her daughter as a "special, cosy and love-filled time."
Adelaide joins her two older brothers, August and Ernest, completing the Brooksbank family of five. This joyful milestone provides a moment of celebration for the York family, contrasting with the ongoing public scrutiny surrounding Eugenie’s father, Prince Andrew. As a member of the royal family born overseas, Adelaide’s arrival underscores the increasingly international lifestyle of the King’s nieces and nephews while maintaining firm roots in British tradition through her lineage and naming.
While the family has been enjoying their private time in Lisbon, the news has resonated across the Commonwealth, marking another generation of the royal family. As 15th in the line of succession, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina represents the continuing legacy of the late Queen. The family is expected to remain in Portugal for the immediate future before making any formal appearances with the wider royal family in the United Kingdom.
