Primetime Limited, the organizers of the prestigious National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), have announced a second consecutive postponement of the regional qualifiers for the 2026 edition of the competition. The qualifiers, which were originally slated to commence on July 6, 2023, had previously been moved to July 9. However, in a statement released on the morning of the new start date, the organizers cited "unforeseen circumstances beyond their control" as the reason for this additional delay. This development has sparked widespread discussion among the academic community and the general public, as the NSMQ is widely regarded as Ghana’s premier science and mathematics competition for senior high schools. The impact of this latest postponement is particularly felt in several key administrative regions, including Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Western, and Western North. Schools in these areas had reportedly finalized their internal preparations and were ready to compete for a spot in the national championship. The sudden change in schedule means that student contestants, who often undergo months of rigorous training, will need to maintain their peak performance levels for an undetermined period. Primetime Limited has reached out to the participating schools, promising that further updates regarding a new and definitive schedule will be communicated through official channels in the coming days. Despite the current logistical hurdles, Primetime Limited has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a seamless and high-quality competition for all participants. The organizers emphasized that the decision to postpone was necessary to address internal challenges and to preserve the integrity and standards of the quiz. As schools and supporters await the new dates, the focus remains on the importance of the NSMQ in promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education across Ghana. The competition continues to serve as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing young scientific talent, and stakeholders are hopeful that the revised timetable will be released promptly to allow the 2026 regional qualifiers to proceed without further interruption.
