Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon) has further cemented its legacy as the powerhouse of Ghanaian academic competition by clinching its ninth National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) championship. In a high-stakes grand finale held in October 2026, the "Odadeə" boys delivered a masterclass in resilience, overcoming a difficult start to finish with a total of 40 points. The victory marks a historic milestone for the Legon-based institution, extending their lead as the school with the most trophies in the history of the prestigious competition.
The road to the 2026 title was far from straightforward for the eventual winners. PRESEC-Legon began the contest on a precarious note, trailing behind their rivals with a mere 9 points at the end of the first round. However, the team demonstrated remarkable composure and strategic depth as the rounds progressed. By the third round, PRESEC had successfully navigated the challenges of the competition to seize the lead, a position they refused to relinquish through the final stages of the quiz.
Their opponents, Accra Academy and St Augustine’s College, provided fierce competition throughout the event, making for one of the most thrilling finales in recent years. Accra Academy finished in second place with a commendable 33 points, while St Augustine’s College secured the third spot with 27 points. Despite the intense pressure from the "Bleoo" boys and the "Augusco" contestants, PRESEC’s ability to remain focused during the rapid-fire rounds ensured their ninth trophy was secured with a comfortable margin over their closest challenger.
This latest triumph reinforces PRESEC-Legon's dominance in Ghana’s educational landscape, symbolizing a tradition of excellence that has spanned decades. The school's evolution from a single-digit score in the opening round to claiming the ultimate prize has been hailed by observers as a testament to their superior preparation and mental fortitude. As the 2026 champions celebrate, the victory sets a formidable benchmark for academic excellence and competitive spirit in the seasons to come.
