The Ghana Police Service has apprehended three Nigerian nationals suspected of operating a criminal syndicate that targets bank customers within the Kumasi metropolis. The suspects were arrested on October 31, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Inspector-General of Police's Special Team. The Ashanti Regional Police Command identified the arrested individuals as 30-year-old Aboy Promise, 45-year-old Favour Uwalaka, and 35-year-old Kingsley. The operation remains ongoing as authorities work to dismantle the remainder of the group.
During the initial sweep at Moshie Zongo, officers recovered several items believed to be used in or gained from their criminal activities. These included GH 1,600 in cash, multiple mobile phones, a motorbike, and a master key designed for vehicles. According to police reports, the master key is a critical piece of evidence suggesting the syndicate's method of breaking into victims' cars to steal money recently withdrawn from financial institutions. The suspects, upon interrogation, reportedly admitted to their involvement in previous robberies, including one specific incident where they made off with GH 15,000 from a victim.
While three members of the gang are currently in custody, the police have launched a manhunt for a fourth suspect identified as Chinedu, also known as "Alhaji," who remains at large. The police administration has urged the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest. In the meantime, the authorities are cautioning bank customers and the general public in the Ashanti Region to remain highly vigilant when conducting financial transactions, particularly when carrying significant amounts of cash after leaving a bank.
