The Bono East Regional Minister, Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi, has conducted a comprehensive inspection of ongoing educational infrastructure projects across the Nkoranza North District. These initiatives, funded primarily through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and central government allocations, are central to President John Mahama’s strategic objective of phasing out the double-track system. The Minister emphasized that expanding facility capacity is critical to ensuring all students can attend school simultaneously while maintaining high standards of teaching and learning within the region.
During his tour of Osei Bonsu Senior High School (SHS), Mr. Antwi expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work on a new classroom block and a girls’ dormitory. However, the inspection at Busunya SHS yielded a different result. The Minister voiced significant dissatisfaction regarding the slow pace of construction and specific technical concerns related to the height of the building’s substructure. Warning of potential sanctions, Mr. Antwi directed the contractors at Busunya to immediately rectify the defects and accelerate their schedule to meet established project milestones and quality standards.
Beyond student facilities, the inspection covered teachers' bungalows and infrastructure in areas such as Tanfiano and Bodom. These housing projects are designed to alleviate the commuting challenges faced by educators, thereby enhancing the overall quality of instruction in the region. Local educational authorities at Osei Bonsu SHS noted that current facility shortages pose significant hurdles, and the completion of these projects is expected to provide much-needed relief to nearly 2,000 students who are currently impacted by infrastructure constraints.
Following the tour, the Nkoranza North District Chief Executive (DCE) commended President John Mahama’s administration for its sustained commitment to the district’s development. Building on the momentum of the current inspections, the DCE announced that the local assembly plans to initiate ten additional infrastructure projects to further enhance local development. These upcoming developments aim to further consolidate the gains made in the education sector and ensure that the regional infrastructure meets the growing demands of the student population.
