Renowned Ghanaian authors Oswald Okaitei, Elizabeth-Irene Baitie, and Ruby Goka have been selected to represent the nation at the 2026 Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) in the United Arab Emirates. Scheduled to run from November 4 to 15, 2026, the event marks Ghana's first official participation in one of the world’s most prominent literary gatherings. This selection highlights a diverse range of literary talent, aiming to project the country's creative identity to a global audience.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Ghana Consulate in Dubai and supported by sponsorship from BOST Energies. Beyond the cultural exchange, the participation is a strategic effort to attract investment into the Ghanaian book industry and create professional opportunities for local writers and publishers. By establishing a presence at this international forum, the delegation aims to foster new connections with global distributors and literary agents, bridging the gap between domestic creativity and international markets.
During the 11-day event, the three authors are expected to exhibit their various works and lead a dedicated Ghana Book Reading session. These activities are designed to provide deep insights into Ghanaian storytelling and heritage while engaging with international readers. Organizers believe that this official debut at the Sharjah International Book Fair will serve as a catalyst for growth within Ghana’s intellectual property sector and strengthen the nation's cultural diplomacy in the Middle East.
