Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, has demanded that the government provide a comprehensive accounting of GH‵650 billion in public funds received over the last two years. The demand for transparency comes as the administration prepares to launch a new economic programme requiring an additional US$10 billion in funding. The NPP legislator insisted that a full breakdown of previous expenditures is necessary before any new large-scale financial commitments are authorized.
Speaking on the necessity of fiscal accountability, Nkrumah questioned the effectiveness of prior economic initiatives, particularly those focused on job creation and domestic production. He noted that despite the significant resources already allocated, many of the government's earlier promises remain unfulfilled. The MP argued that taxpayers deserve a clear understanding of how the GH‵650 billion was spent and what tangible results were achieved, especially ahead of major political cycles where economic performance is a central issue.
Nkrumah’s call for a detailed financial audit emphasizes a broader demand for transparency within the national administration. He maintained that demonstrating the success of past programmes is a prerequisite for moving forward with new initiatives like the proposed US$10 billion package. The legislator urged the government to prioritize public trust by showing evidence of value for money in its previous fiscal management before embarking on further borrowing or resource allocation.
