Vice-President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to Inaugurate 7th Global Micronutrient Forum in Accra

Ghana is set to host the Seventh Global Conference of the Micronutrient Forum (MNF) from September 28 to October 1, 2026, in Accra. The four-day event, themed "Nutrition at the Frontiers of a Changing Environment," marks a significant milestone in the country's public health and nutrition agenda. Vice-President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is scheduled to open the conference, a move that highlights the government's commitment to prioritizing nutrition as a fundamental pillar of national development under the current administration of President John Mahama.

The conference arrives at a critical juncture as global nutrition gains face unprecedented threats from climate change, humanitarian crises, and shifting food systems. By gathering researchers, policymakers, and civil society representatives, the forum aims to bridge the gap between scientific evidence and actionable policy. The agenda is structured around three primary tracks: biology and efficacy, program design, and the creation of enabling environments. These tracks will facilitate deep dives into the latest advancements in micronutrient science and the integration of nutrition across diverse sectors such as agriculture and healthcare.

Local preparations for the global gathering are being led by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in collaboration with the Micronutrient Forum and several partner organizations. To ensure maximum accessibility and inclusivity, the conference will utilize a hybrid format, allowing for both onsite participation in Accra and online attendance for international delegates. Registration is currently open to a wide range of stakeholders, including development partners and academic researchers, as the forum seeks to cultivate practical solutions to enhance global nutrition security amidst financial and environmental constraints.
