Ohemaa Serwaa Abigail Owusu Ansah, a 23-year-old student, has been granted bail in the sum of GH‵1 million by a court following her alleged involvement in the theft of GH‵1.5 million from Bishop Daniel Obinim. The accused, whose plea has not yet been taken, is facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and stealing. The funds reportedly belong to the founder of the International Godsway Church, one of Ghana's most prominent religious figures.
The prosecution's account alleges that Owusu Ansah did not act alone in the commission of the crime. She is accused of inviting two male accomplices to assist her in breaking into a safe kept by Bishop Obinim. Once the safe was breached, the group allegedly made off with the GH‵1.5 million in cash. While the student has been apprehended and brought before the court, the status of the two men involved in the alleged break-in remains a subject of ongoing police investigation.
In granting bail, the court mandated that Owusu Ansah provide two sureties to ensure her appearance for trial. To address the significant amount of money involved in the case, the court further specified that at least one of these sureties must provide evidence of justified landed property. This requirement serves as a financial guarantee as the legal process moves forward into the evidentiary stage.
The legal proceedings are scheduled to resume on October 29, 2026, as the prosecution works to finalize its case and provide further details regarding the circumstances of the safe breach. The high-profile nature of the victim has drawn significant public attention to the matter, which remains under active investigation as authorities seek to recover the missing funds and identify all parties involved in the alleged conspiracy.
