Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for immediate reconciliation within the party following the recent national delegates conference. He emphasized that building a united front is essential for the party's success as it prepares for the 2028 general elections. Appiah, popularly known as COKA, urged the newly elected national executives to reach out to their former opponents to ensure that every member feels included in the party’s forward march.
Speaking after the conference, Appiah noted that a conciliatory spirit is vital as the party prepares for its upcoming parliamentary primaries and subsequent campaign activities. He highlighted that internal competition, while healthy for democracy, should not result in deep-seated divisions that could undermine the party’s strength. By fostering a collaborative environment, Appiah argues the NPP can consolidate its gains and present a formidable challenge to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next election cycle.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman also expressed strong confidence in the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He observed that the support demonstrated during the national delegates conference reflects a collective resolve within the NPP to return to power. Appiah believes that the unity shown by members across the regions positions the party well to reclaim the presidency, provided the leadership prioritizes healing and inclusivity at all levels of the organization.
As the NPP moves into its next phase of reorganization, the call for reconciliation serves as a strategic roadmap for the new executive body. Appiah’s remarks underscore the importance of the Ashanti Region as a party stronghold and the necessity of maintaining internal peace to effectively mobilize voters. The party's ability to successfully navigate its internal selection processes will be a determining factor in its performance during the 2028 polls against President John Mahama's administration.
