The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents, and supporters to immediately suspend all campaign activities. The order, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, follows numerous complaints regarding premature campaigning in several constituencies across the country. The party leadership stated that these early activities violate internal regulations and the party's established Code of Conduct.
Under the new directive, the party has strictly prohibited the mounting of promotional posters, the organization of rallies, and the use of social media advertisements to promote candidacies. Aspirants are also barred from soliciting support or distributing incentives and gifts to party members. The NPP explained that these restrictions are vital to maintaining party unity and ensuring a level playing field for all potential candidates before the official selection process begins.
The party issued a stern warning that any aspirant who fails to comply with the directive faces disciplinary action, which may include disqualification from contesting in the upcoming primaries. Additionally, party officers at all levels—national, regional, and constituency—have been instructed to remain neutral and refrain from endorsing or promoting any individual before the official campaign window is opened.
To provide further clarity, the NPP management indicated that a comprehensive timetable and detailed guidelines for the parliamentary primaries will be announced soon. In the interim, the party has called for cooperation from all stakeholders to preserve organizational discipline as it prepares for the internal elections.
