The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a nationwide demonstration scheduled for November 3, 2026, to demand the immediate dismissal of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. The protest, themed "Yɛgye yɛ sika" (We are reclaiming our money), centers on allegations of financial mismanagement and a lack of transparency concerning the evacuation of Ghanaian citizens from South Africa and the management of diplomatic passports.
According to the party's National Youth Organiser, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, the demonstration will commence at 6:00 a.m. at Villaggio in Accra. Protesters plan to march through the capital, stopping at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before concluding at Jubilee House. Yakubu emphasized that public funds and official documents must be held in trust for the citizens, urging party supporters and the general public to join the march to ensure accountability within the government.
Beyond the minister's removal, the NPP is calling for the Attorney-General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to launch formal investigations into the costs associated with the South African evacuation exercise. The party is specifically seeking the release of a full passenger manifest and a detailed breakdown of all expenses incurred since President John Mahama took office in January 2025. These demands follow rising concerns over the criteria used for diplomatic passport issuance and overall government expenditure.
The announcement of the domestic protest follows international friction involving the Foreign Affairs Minister. On October 28, 2026, a community engagement event in Toronto, Canada, was disrupted when members of the Ghanaian diaspora interrupted the minister’s speech. Protesters at the scene brandished placards with the "Yɛgye yɛ sika" slogan, signaling growing pressure on the ministry regarding its financial conduct and the management of diplomatic services abroad.
