The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is intensifying preparations for its National Delegates Conference, scheduled for October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. A focal point of the upcoming elections is the race for the National Vice Chairperson positions, where delegates will select three candidates from a pool of 13 aspirants. Frederick Opare-Ansah, Chairperson of the NPP National Officers Elections Committee, confirmed that a tally system will be utilized for the vote. To ensure a smooth process, the party has finalized the Delegates Register for collection starting September 17 and introduced an online verification portal for delegates to confirm their eligibility.
Stringent measures have been put in place for media coverage of the event. Oboshie Sai-Coffie, Chairperson of the Communications and Media Subcommittee, announced that the deadline for media accreditation is September 21, 2026. This requirement applies to all journalists and bloggers, who must register via the party's portal to gain entry. The party plans to establish a Media Village at the stadium to accommodate various media houses. However, physical access to the inner perimeter will be restricted, with the party providing an official broadcast feed for all coverage within that area.
Beyond the immediate internal elections, the NPP is recalibrating its strategy for the 2028 general elections, particularly in its stronghold of the Ashanti Region. Joseph Osei Owusu, the former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has set an ambitious target for the party to secure 80% of the votes in the region. Acknowledging a decline in voter confidence during recent polls, Osei Owusu urged newly formed regional committees to adopt house-to-house campaign strategies. This approach aims to revitalize connections with the grassroots and directly address voter concerns to restore the party’s historical dominance in the region.
The party's recruitment efforts are also seeing new developments, notably with the entry of prominent media personality Samuel Kojo Brace into the political arena. Brace, known for his advocacy and cultural work in the Ahanta community, has been welcomed by NPP's Sammi Awuku as he prepares to contest the parliamentary primary for Ahanta West for the 2028 cycle. This expansion comes amid external pressures, as Alan Kyerematen, founder of the United Party (UP+), claims his departure from the NPP has significantly impacted the voting intentions of some members. Kyerematen further alleged that several NPP members have expressed interest in joining his new movement, highlighting the competitive political landscape the NPP must navigate as it organizes for the future.
