The East Legon Football Academy (ELFA) has officially recognized the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for its instrumental support in fostering youth football excellence in Ghana. Through the NPA's financial backing, the academy has been able to participate in high-stakes international competitions, providing young athletes with the exposure and experience necessary for professional growth. This partnership underscores a growing trend of corporate involvement in sports as a vehicle for national development and youth empowerment. Recent successes for the academy include significant victories at the Dana Cup in Denmark, where ELFA teams secured the Under-14 championship in 2024 and the Under-12 title in 2025. In addition to tournament success, the NPA’s sponsorship facilitated a series of scouting trials in Spain. During this European tour, players had the opportunity to visit iconic stadiums and train with prominent Spanish football academies, gaining invaluable insights into the standards of global professional football. To show their appreciation, representatives from the academy visited the NPA headquarters to present a citation of honor and a customized jersey to NPA CEO Godwin Kudzo Tameklo. During the meeting, Mr. Tameklo praised the young footballers for their discipline and dedication, stating that their achievements bring pride to the nation. He reiterated the NPA's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, viewing the support of sports as a strategic investment in the future of Ghana's youth. This ongoing collaboration between the NPA and ELFA serves as a benchmark for sports philanthropy in the country. By bridging the gap between local talent and international opportunities, such initiatives play a vital role in the socio-economic development goals of President John Mahama’s administration. As the academy prepares for future international engagements, the sustained support from the NPA is expected to pave the way for more Ghanaian youngsters to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
