Northern Ashanti Mines Limited (NAMLC) has formally accused the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) of attempting to disable surveillance systems at its Konongo mining site. In a series of allegations raised by the company's legal counsel, Vint and Aletheia, the mining firm claims that secretariat officials sought to tamper with CCTV cameras and server rooms to conceal evidence of illicit activities. The dispute follows the secretariat's takeover of the site on October 22, 2026, after the government moved to revoke NAMLC's mining leases.
According to the mining company, NAIMOS officials allegedly attempted to access the server room specifically to disconnect cameras after surveillance footage captured Chinese nationals being introduced to the concession. NAMLC asserts that these foreign individuals were brought onto the site by officials from both NAIMOS and the Minerals Commission with the potential intention of transferring mining rights to them. The company's lawyers highlighted that recorded conversations and existing footage suggest illicit motives behind the recent operational changes at the Konongo site.
Despite the presence of the anti-illegal mining secretariat, NAMLC claims that illegal mining has actually resumed under the new management. The firm argues that the attempt to disable the CCTV setup is a deliberate move to hide these ongoing activities from public and judicial scrutiny. The company has explicitly warned NAIMOS against any further unauthorized access to its technical infrastructure, stating that such actions could jeopardize the integrity of evidence required for their ongoing legal challenges.
The confrontation is part of a broader legal battle, as NAMLC has already initiated court proceedings to challenge the revocation of its mining leases. The company has filed for an interlocutory injunction to prevent further interference with its operations while the substantive case is heard. Lawyers for NAMLC have cautioned that any tampering with the surveillance systems will be met with additional legal repercussions, as they seek to protect the company's assets and reputation amidst the transition of control at the Konongo mine.
